This was written retrospectively in July 2017.
I think that weddings in New York City are notorious for being ridiculously expensive. Following typical convention for decoration, guest lists, menus, flowers, and everything else in a place where everything is more expensive and space is hard to come by means expenses add up quickly. The solution? Focus on what really matters.
Jessica and Elfège invited their closest friends and family, borrowed a lawn in Fort Tryon Park in upper Manhattan, and had a lovely little ceremony.
I don’t quite remember exactly what transpired, but there was some irreverence towards standard operating procedure. I think in addition to exchanging rings they also exchanged gifts at the altar.
I know that as part of the wedding business I totally benefit from people wanting to spend money on their special day, but this raw and intimate ceremony affirms my belief that a wedding doesn’t need all the frills and extravagance that all those magazines try to sell you. Just focus on what matters and let the wedding be not a one-off event but the start of something special.
Congrats guys! Hope all is well.
