If there was one thing for me to continue from last year (i.e. this blog’s work), it had to be nature photography. Obviously, living in New York City offers many perks, but easy access to nature is not one of them. Central Park is my one respite, a 0.8 mile run up 7 avenues from campus, so I started going pretty darn often. Continue reading Phases of Central Park
The Midnight Hike
What better way to celebrate the end of the Brain and Mind unit than to exercise our bodies by returning to the wilderness? Well, that’s what a group of second years thought (I didn’t finish BAM, just tagged along), and so out we headed to Breakneck Ridge in the Hudson Highlands State Park for a midnight hike culminating in watching sunrise at the summit. Can you always win 2048?
My intuition and experience tells me that, with optimal play, you can almost always — but not always — win 2048.
2048 is a wonderful puzzle game that I’ve spent far too much time playing (although probably not as much as what it’s based on, Threes.)
I’ve never done real proofs in my life, but I know that to prove that you can always win, I need to prove that a malicious and omnipotent computer cannot defeat you.
I’ll assume you know how the game works. The rules that are most likely to end your game are: Continue reading Can you always win 2048?
Packing for the Big Move
Today, for the third time in my life, I’m moving across the country, this time to Cornell med school and New York City. It’s up to me to bring the things to transform that empty dorm room into my home for the next four years. Continue reading Packing for the Big Move
A wild summer of re-exploring California
This summer, I was on a mission: to take photos, hang out with friends and family, and have fun in general before med school consumes my life. Now, one week before I fly off to New York I must say… MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!
Two months, 29 days (50%) with significant shoots, 4000 snaps, 650 shots developed, 3000+ miles on the road, so many great memories. Sit tight, and let your computers buffer up, because this is a big post! Continue reading A wild summer of re-exploring California
Website Restyling
It’s been on my todo list for almost half a year now, but I finally updated my website’s theme to be responsive and display properly on small windows. Yay! Continue reading Website Restyling
The absurd 64-mile bike ride
So yup, I biked 64 miles around Santa Barbara and it’s neighboring cities, along the beaches, through the foothills, downtown, uptown, through a mountainside neighborhood, and then some. It took 5.5 hours. I purportedly burned 2200 calories. It was longer than my previous longest two bike rides combined (37 mi and 26 mi), and I kind of can’t believe I pulled it off. Continue reading The absurd 64-mile bike ride
Sharing the Road in the Sky
Every once in a while, I get a shot I know I’ll remember forever. There’s always a story behind each one, usually some ridiculous journey that I embark on myself or some anecdote about being struck by some revelation about composition. The story behind this milky way shot, however, is different. Continue reading Sharing the Road in the Sky
